SPECTRE'S ALBUM REVIEW
Mr. Review's Rate: 3/5 starsFrom the prolific mind of Kyoufuu (RazorWind) comes yet another album wich really attempts to up the ante by featuring guest appearances from three different artists. "Sadness of a Joker" is comprised of 7 tracks; three instrumental songs wich also have vocal renditions. Poe, Seventh and Closertodying are the three who have graced this album with their very different and unique styles.
Before discussing the instrumental aspect we'll get straight to the vocals since it could be said to be the extra appeal that other albums don't currently have. Mixing wise, the tracks featuring Closertodying are probably the best accomplished. His guttural screams and contrasting angst ridden, sometimes almost
fairy like singing can easily send chills down your spine. There's also some interesting multilayering effects used that give you the impression Closer might have two twin brothers tearing it up with him. What weighs on the other side of the balance however are they numereous timing and pitch problems wich are present on all tracks. "What Will Be" featuring Seventh, who takes on a more hip-hop approach (for lack of a better description), is probably the most vocally sound song. The lyrics are overall well synchronized but once again there are a few intonation difficulties. Of course the humourous touch towards the end of the song almost makes you forget those little qualms. As for Poe's cameo, it's a valiant effort, but, it's also few steps off the mark.
As mentionned in the opening statement, the instrumental only versions of the tracks can be heard at the end of the album as well. Kyoufuu manages to wrap punk, ska, metal and hard rock all into
one package, with what is probably some of his best material. Listening to the non vocal versions also allows room to appreciate the effort put into these compositions. In the long run however and judging "Sadness of a Joker" for what it is, it maybe fails to capture the essence of what this icebreaker
could of and should of been.
SPECTRE'S WORD OF ADVICE: @Kyoufuu, mixing was probably the biggest issue here. The balance and volume between the vocals and instruments can completly change the allure of a song. Striving to reach the best equilibrium between the two can enhance the results amazingly.

SENOR REVIEW
Rating: 7/10
Kyoufuu has released another Punk-o-matic album, “Sadness of a Joker”. This time, it imports vocals in the EP. It contains 7 tracks, 4 which are vocal and 3 which are instrumental versions of the vocal songs. The album features Poe, Seventh and Closertodying who all gave good effort and giving the songs different styles to them.
Each vocalist showcases different styles to the album which brings variety to the album. Poe in, “The Past Looms in Dreams at Night” sings with a very light voice that goes along with the song. Seventh takes on a hip hop and ska style in, “What Will Be” with quite a silly way to end the song and finally, Closertodying in, “All Falls Down” and, “The Past Looms in Dreams at Night Pt.2” features shouting vocals by him but takes on the song with him in a way that he is screaming out with two vocals in one singer like he has another person shouting along with him. All of the vocalists have given the songs unique styles and with each, having their own set of vocal skills, suited to their song quite well.
However, a few flaws had appeared in the album. One of the flaws would be mixing the vocal parts and the instrumental behind it. Sometimes it would not be balanced with the volume and that changes the way of how the song feels. Another problem is not only the vocals are not mixed down with the instrumental in volume balance but matching it to be in time as well. There is a few problems with the balance which takes a few points and holding it from a higher mark.
With the instrumental songs with no vocals, Kyoufuu has done a good job in composing punk, ska and hardcore in the album. Each instrument played well together and there is nothing wrong with the non-vocal songs. In the end, Kyoufuu brings in something different with the vocals which was done quite well but it is not yet all that great. The album can use a bit more fixing before going on its way for a higher score.
Tip: Try to mix down the vocals a bit more and match the vocals to go along with the music. Mixing makes a big difference and if not done so well, can change the feel to the song.

ROSE OF THE DAMNED
SPECTRE'S ALBUM REVIEW
Mr. Review's Rate: 4/5 stars
An artist who has longtime been on the scene and involved in the music community, Kyoufuu (Razor Wind) shows us that he knows how to entertain. With his 3rd album entitled "Rose of the Damned", Razor Wind has assembled a collection of catchy punk ballads blended along with some hard and heavy elements. Fourteen tracks for a suprising under 25 minute mark is not a a complaint in this case either.
Far from being the new kid on the block, it's quite apparent that Kyoufuu has taken time to dramatically improve his composition skills with ROTD. As hinted at above, many songs on this album are simply short and sweet wich is a refreshing and welcomed change from typical lengthier tracks. The collage of stop and go riffing, individual bridges and frequent mood changes will most likely please more than one palette.
There are a few slips here and there when it comes to harmonious selections and modulations, but that aside, Kyoufuu's release features a good dose of intensity, groovy drum fills and a well acheived balance between melodic and hard rock passages. Examining a couple tracks,"Homunculus"(despite it's somewhat akward title) keeps you fastened tightly in your seat just as "Pop One Off" is definitely a high speed train wreck with it's onslaught of edgy riffing. And then there's "interludes" like "A Love Going Strong" and "Flamewheel" that also fit the bill perfectly.
In the long run, "Rose of the Damned" might not be voted album of the year but it does remain a very respectable effort for a third offering and easily deserves more just a quick skim.
SPECTRE'S WORD OF ADVICE: @Kyoufuu, some songs tend to go a bit all over the place. Sticking to a few solid chord arrangements with a couple dazzling elements reinforces the saying that "sometimes less is more".
